The worst part about living on campus is the process of packing to live on campus. You can start as early as June, or leave it all to right before you leave for school. But, no matter when the process starts, it also ends in frustration and procrastination. It could be that one unique item you have been searching everywhere for but could not find, or a whole list of things you have neglected for weeks because going to the store requires work. If you plan on living on campus or you are living on campus again, the cast of "How I Met Your Mother" is here to describe the packing for college process.
1. Initially, you tell yourself you will start early to make everything easier.
This is a common lie. Don't worry, you are not the only one who has said this.
2. You have stared at the list of things you need for weeks but have not actually went out and bought those things.
Procrastination at its finest. Pretty much anything else sounds better than taking yourself to the store to dorm shop.
3. The end of July rolls around and you are now in full on panic mode.
Now realizing school starts in a couple of weeks, your brain is really trying to tell you to get it together.
4.You planned on color coordinating the items in your room, but none of the blues are matching.
Color coordination is what makes the room. Even when the room is a little messy, it'll still seem pulled together. When colors don't match, you are no longer in charge of the room (I know this from experience).
5. Five days before you move in, the refrigerator you bought online still hasn't shipped.
Refrigerators are one of the most important things in a dorm room. So when shipping is running late, you won't be able to concentrate on anything else but that.
6. You finally bought everything you need, but realize you still have to pack it all into boxes.
This part of the process also inlcludes cleaning and usually when cleaning you start to get distracted by random items you find. When that happens, you will find yourself putting them into boxes for hours on end. It is no fun at all.
7. Move In day arrives, and you put that final bag in the car.
Closing that car door shut symbolizes the start of relaxation. The hard part is now over and you can take that nap you have been meaning to take for days now.
8. You fill up the closet and drawers will clothes and you realize you over packed.
There is really nothing worse than getting to your room and realizing there is no space for all the stuff you brought. But trust me when I say this, it is a blessing in disguise. Most of the clothes you bring to school will barely even see the light of day.
9. Your work is done but then you remember all the things you left at home.
Quadruple check the list of items to bring so this does not happen to you. Depending on where your school is, getting those forgotten supplies could be a total breeze or a real nightmare.
