It's that time of the year... We are relaxing during spring break and we are getting that taste of summertime fun. Now it's back to the books to prepare for the next test and then finals. Back to group projects and waking up for those 8ams. We are hitting the mid-semester slump. The part of the semester where you just want to throw in the towel and stay in bed forever. We had that taste of freedom and now that's all we crave. Well, all you have to do is get over this slump and push yourself and then we will be there! Here's some ways to help you out.
1. Get into a new hobby to take your mind off things.
When you're feeling sluggish and can't focus on studying, take a break and do something you're passionate about. It will give your brain a break and hopefully after you'll be rejuvenated to start studying again.
2. Start exercising or meditating in the morning.
A good exercise in the morning is a great way to start off the day. Getting your blood flowin' releases endorphins and makes you want to be more productive throughout the day. Plus it's always nice to be healthy and fit!
3. Have better eating habits.
I know I am super guilty of this one. Skipping breakfast, having a big lunch, and then not eating dinner until 11 o'clock at night. Eating clean an healthy can really change your mood and give you more energy. Having more energy will want to make you be more productive and help you break through the slump and feel better.
4. Make sure you are getting enough sleep.
During the semester slump we all like to procrastinate till the last second therefore leading into late nights. Not getting enough sleep with for sure make you feel sluggish and make the slump feel even worse. So make sure you are getting all of your Z's in so you can have a more effective day!
5. Go to office hours and SI sessions.
The slump can cause your grades to suffer because you really just don't care. Make yourself go to those office hours and SI sessions. They might be a pain in the moment but it will pay off in the end.
6. Schedule a weekend get away.
If you plan out a weekend in between spring break and summer break it'll give you something to look forward to and give you a little breather. Having something to look forward to will help you push yourself to get to the mini-vacation.
7. Think of the big picture.
When you feel like you can't do school anymore, just think in a semester or a year or two you'll be done with school and you'll be in the big world. All that you are doing right now will help you get that diploma. The slump is rough, I know, but it'll all be worth it in the end.
We all feel it. The same "I can't do this anymore" thoughts. The slump is real and the slump is hard. But fear not, there is ways to overcome it! I know you are just going to want to give up, but like I said, think of the big picture. If you can push through this, it will pay off when you are walking across that stage to get your diploma.
