I was born and raised in Florida and I was brought up with palm trees and beaches and lots of jean shorts, but when I came to Auburn University I had no idea the changes I was about to face. I didn’t miss the beaches much or the palm trees but it was weird to hear that if you wanted to go see the shores you had to make a weekend trip out of it. The extra long t-shirts, Nike shorts and some strange sandal things called Chacos were pretty tough to get used to, but I'm almost two semesters in and I still question my classmates. It’s tough to remember that it’s unusual to dress up for class and screaming War Eagle after every little thing is expected. Here are some basic questions and thoughts an outstate student might think if they weren’t raised in the Auburn family.
- What exactly defines the Auburn family?
- Where is the closest mall?
- Why would someone wear Chacos?
- On game days don’t expect to leave campus.
- Why does everything close when I normally go out?
- How many sizes larger should my shirt be?
- Sunday is the day of God so everyone will be at Church.
- One curse word and you might get shunned.
- When is it not OK to say War Eagle?
- On game days, we only wear orange and blue.
- Why are there so many hills?
- Comfort colors are a must.
- The bars are all 19 and older.
- When football season was a miss don’t expect spring semester to be a thrill.
- How do you juggle football and school?
- I guess I hate the University of Alabama now.
