So, it's that time of the year again! An all new semester has arrived and incoming freshman are looking to find their niche. For those of us in clubs and organizations, it's recruiting season. We've found our niche and in order to keep it alive, we have to find new members to carry out our legend once the upperclassmen graduate. I mean, clubs are how we make friends and who doesn't want more friends to share in the experiences that will make your time at college unforgettable. Here are some tips to help your club thrive with new members:
Hand out flyers.
Make a cool flyer and have everyone in your club carry them around and hand them out. Start a conversation with the person sitting next to you in your class about your club. If they sound interested, hand them a flyer. They won't forget the link to your club's Facebook page if you have it printed out for them.
Sign your club up for Bull Market.
It's a tabling event that gets people aware of what clubs are actually available at USF. Also, bring a little incentive to your table. Like free chips and candy. Students love free stuff and that'll get their attention long enough for you to talk about why your club is the best.
If you're a sports club- Rec The Night.
If you're in a sports club, participate in Rec The Night, another tabling event. It's a great way to get noticed by incoming students. It's tons of fun, and a great way to meet more people.
Host an event.
Be original and have your club host an event on campus that newcomers can attend and meet people in the club and see what it's all about. It could be a pool party, an ice cream social, or a friendly scrimmage. This is my personal favorite way to recruit because you actually get to spend time with the possible newbies.
Wear your club's gear.
Represent your club when you're on campus. People will notice and if they're interested in it they'll ask about it. This provides the perfect opportunity to brag about your club and possibly get a new member. And all you had to do was wear a shirt. It can sometimes be that easy.
And those are just a few ideas. Get creative and have fun with it. That's what clubs are for. Find those people who are going to share your passion and build your club up so one day when you're an alumni, you can come back and see your club lasting through generations.
