Oprah Names Her Baby Boy

When one hears the name Oprah Winfrey, most minds instantly go to great places. Oprah Gail Winfrey has grown to become a great influence to society over the course of 25 plus years. Throughout her career, Oprah has been able to showcase her talents through a variety of different ways. Other than acting and being the activist she is, she’s spent a great amount of her career servicing different parts of society. Prior to her performance this past December in Australia, many of her fans were interviewed and they all simultaneously stated she is “Inspirational.”

Many people are able to relate to this phenomenal woman because with knowledge of her past, it is quite obvious that she ‘started from the bottom”. Oprah was born into poverty by a teenage mother whom oftentimes abandoned her. Oprah was sent to live with her grandmother at the age of six. During these times Oprah experienced a vast amount of adversity. Oprah began to experience sexual abuse at the age of 9, shortly after she went to live with her grandmother. At 14-years-old, Oprah gave birth to her first child who died shortly after due to being premature. The child’s name had been anonymous for years, until recently when she was speaking in Melbourne, Australia. Winfrey expressed the baby was a result of rape. She never thought to name the baby until an interview she had prior to arriving in Australia with a reporter who suggested she should give the baby a name. While performing in Australia she stated “I did have a son. And I named him Canaan because Canaan means new land, new life.”

Since then, Oprah hasn't had any other children of her own. Instead, she has used her prior experiences in life to inspire those around her and to give back to those who need it the most.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
