Opinion: Renting movies V.S. going to movies

I think that there's something special about going to the movies and in this article I am going to convince you why that is.

Opinion: Renting movies V.S. going to movies

In This Article:

I totally understand a lazy day on the couch, some blankets, a movie that was either rented or bought and popcorn. However, dressing up and going out to watch a movie is much better and I am going to explain why. Going to the movie is one of my favorite things to do and I wouldn't ever trade for sitting at home and watching a movie. There's just something special about the atmosphere of movie theaters that I think sitting at home can't even compare to.

1. You get an excuse to eat junk food for an hour.

You can possibly not love eating movie theater popcorn and candy. Going to the movies is a cheat day for everyone because it should be a mandatory rule that everyone should be eating popcorn. I personally won't enjoy the movie if I don't have popcorn with me. I am almost always guilty of finishing my popcorn before the movie even starts.

2. You have an excuse to leave the house.

I know that sitting on the couch is an enjoyable time. We all need to be vegetables at some point in our lives. However, going to the movies mixes lazy with going out. I think that the movies give a great excuse for you to go out of the house, but still not feel like you're doing anything too crazy.

3. Perfect way to hangout with friends.

My go-to hangout to do with my friends is going to the movies. It's a fun way to gather everyone in one place. It's also super easy to do more after the movie because all your friends are in one place.

4. Don't know what to do for a date? May I suggest a movie.

This is the best reason on this list. If you and your boyfriend or girlfriend do not know what to do for a date and have gotten tired of going to restaurants, then going to the movies is a cure for you. It's both fun and you can also sit close and snuggle and share a lovely bag of popcorn.

5. It's a great way to support the movies that you love.

When you go to a movie, the money you spend determines a lot of things. My favorite thing to do is watch the Oscars and I get very excited when a movie that I've seen that year wins an Oscar or is nominated.

I know that these are five simple reasons, but I feel like that you wouldn't be able to get the great experience of going to the movies if you watch at home. If you have the opportunity to go to the movies over staying home, then I recommend choosing the first choice. If nothing I wrote convinces you that going to the movies is better, then consider this last reason: Going to the movies gives you an option to be lazy outside of your house.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
