An Open Letter To My College Best Friend
Björn Anseeuw

Dear Unnamed Friend,

I remember the first day we “met “each other. It was the day we registered for classes this summer. An upperclassmen introduced us to each other by saying, “hey you two are in the same First Term Seminar; you should talk” and then we were thrown into a very awkward two minute conversation. The one detail that is the clearest to me is that you were wearing a t-shirt that had a logo of my favorite musical on it. I do not remember anything else. To be honest, I laughed at the thought of us ever becoming good friends. Our conversation was as awkward as a middle-school dance, so how on earth were we going to become friends? Little did I know that we would become good friends during Orientation Weekend.

You probably don’t know it, but you are one my closest friends. How do I know this? Whenever we are together, time seems to melt away. You make me smile every time you walk into the room, as I know a party is about to start. I always feel like I can be myself around you; I don’t have to hide who I am or compromise my thoughts or beliefs. Whenever we are apart, even if it is for a day, I miss you more than you could ever imagine. You have made this school year one of the best years ever with your presence, and to that I say thank you.

Thank you for making life fun. Thank you for being my partner in crime and going on adventures with me. I will always remember the fun walks we have to the grocery store, and the conversations we have along the way. Remember that time that little boy showed us his grappling hook? That was really cool. I will also cherish the fun we have playing video games in your room, and watching movies in mine. We have made so many fun memories, and I know that I can never be bored with you around. Thanks for also being the best pun buddy. Everyone else cringes when I let a pun escape from my mouth, but you laugh along and always throw in some puny comments as well. If we were cats, I would say that our punny humor would make us purrfect for each other. See what I did there?

Thank you for being there when the times are tough. You have the best set of listening ears that I know. I know that when I need to vent about things, I can come to you. Thank you for answering my frantic texts at ungodly hours of the night when I am freaking out about things. I know it is probably annoying, but you are able to calm me down, and I appreciate that. Thank you for being the best life coach. You honestly give some of the best advice, whether that be to try the coconut shrimp, or to not worry so much about what is going to happen in the future, because everything will be OK just as long as I believe it will be. You are one of the few people who truly knows how to bring me out of a sour mood, and is certain that I won’t fall right back into it. Thank you.

Thanks for making me smile in more ways than one. First, you always have something interesting to say. Whether you are telling me about your favorite game, your opinion on current events, or even a family anecdote, you always share your thoughts in the most intriguing way that just keeps me wanting more. I just can’t help but smile every time I talk to you because the way you describe things with such passion. You also make me smile because of the way you present yourself to others. You stay true to who you are, and you also know how to take things with grace and handle the toughest situations. I really wish I could do the same, so thanks for being such a good role model. I truly am thankful for you, as you are able to make me smile on the toughest of days.

Unnamed Friend, I am so glad I have gotten to know you this year. I will truly miss you when you are gone, and I hope we can still be friends for a long time.

Sincerely,

Me

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
