An Open Letter To The Friends I've Lost Along The Way

When you meet people who you just click with, they become your people. No matter how different you may seem, there's just a bond that seems to always hold you together. When you think about friendship, there never seems to be an end in sight, but that's not always the case.

I know things change and people grow apart, but I never thought we would. Our friend group was different. We had a connection unlike any other but things happen and people drift apart. It's just life. To the friends I have lost along the way, there are a few things I would like you to know.

Dear friends of the past,

I'll never forget you. Sometimes I'm driving down the road and I see something that reminds me of our friendship. It takes me back to a time when we were close and happy. These memories are important to me and I will always hold them near and dear to my heart. Every laugh, smile and memory we shared together will never be forgotten and I hope you feel the same way.

I don't regret you. Regardless of our our current status of friendship, you will always mean something to me. I appreciate every text. Every phone call. Every crazy adventure. Every birthday gift. Every moment you spent with me. Just because things are different now doesn't mean I regret our friendship because that's not the case. At that time in my life, you were what I needed and what made me happy. I will never regret any of the positive contributions you gave to my life. Sometimes people are just too different and have opposing views on life. It is what it is.

It's for the best. If you're not in my life anymore, there's a reason for that. I am a firm believer that there's a reason for everything. Whether things ended on my terms or yours, it's important that we do what we need to do to stay happy. I am far from perfect, so I'm sorry for the things that I did wrong. I do my best not to hold grudges, but if we are not in contact, it really is in our best interest. Our friendship was clearly toxic and neither of us need that negative energy.

I still care. I just want you to know just because I don't call you or text you that you still mean something to me. I think of you often and wonder how you're doing. I wish you the best in the future. I hope you're safe and healthy and being the best person you can be because you deserve to be happy.

With love,

Your ex-friend.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
