Well, the time has come. You're about to graduate high school and begin the greatest four years of your life. Going off to college is an exciting time, and as your older sibling, it's especially exciting for me to see you getting ready to start this journey. But do you know what the most exciting part is? Out of all the thousands of schools you could have chosen to attend next year, you picked mine.
I know the decision wasn't easy. I know that once again having your older sibling around at school wasn't the most appealing idea, at least at first. But I also know that there's something comforting for you about having me there to guide you in the beginning. Don't worry, I won't bug you, I'm only here to be a resource. It takes some time to truly transition to college life, and since I already know the ropes, I'm excited to help you make that transition.
I can't wait to help you choose classes (if you don't have to, don't take finite), and I can't wait to hear all about your experience at orientation.
I can't wait for you to find out where you're living, to shop for your room and to eventually help you move in. I can't wait for you to experience Welcome Week and to hear all the funny stories from you and your new friends. And don't worry, I'll introduce you to my friends, too. You'll love 'em.
I can't wait for you to get involved on campus and find your passions. You wouldn't believe how many opportunities you have to do what interests you.
I can't wait to see you sporting our school colors and getting into the spirit of things. I can't wait for you to experience all the great things this school and town have to offer, from the tailgates and sporting events to the great restaurants downtown.
I can't wait for you to finally understand some of the traditions that make this college so great (ahem ... Little 500), as well as those little special things every student loves, i.e. ordering pizza and breadsticks at 2 a.m.
I can't wait for you to fall in love with this campus like I have over the last few years. You wouldn't believe how jealous I am that you've got your entire college career in front of you. Enjoy every moment of it while you can, because they're not kidding when they say it goes fast.
But on that note, thank you for giving me yet another reason to keep coming back after I graduate. I'll definitely miss campus once I leave and become a real adult, but I'm excited (and relieved) to know I can re-live college vicariously through you, at least for a little while.
It's still hard to believe you're even old enough to be going to college, but hey, it had to happen at some point. You're going to have an amazing time next year, and I'm happy to be a part of it.
P.S. Please remember me when you have extra meal points.
