I can’t believe how fast you’re growing. It seems like just yesterday we were teaching you how to tie your shoes, and now we are fighting over who gets to wear mom’s shirt today and who gets shotgun. Time has seriously flown by. I blinked and all of the sudden you are going into high school and struggling. Between the mean girls and cute boys, it starts to get hard. Trust me, I’ve been there.
I hate to see you cry. I hate to see your beautiful smile stuck underneath built up anxiety and stress. I hate to see that your sparkle is dull. You have such a whimsical spirit, and the world deserves to get to see that side of you. I know how hard life can seem at your age, but believe me when I say it will be OK. Know that the cute boy in science class is only that—the cute boy in science class. Understand that the popular girl that only spreads hate and rumors is insecure and irrelevant in the larger view. High school can be some of the hardest years, but I know you will get through it. I know that I will see your sparkle come back and that wonderful smile shine bright.
I remember Mom and Dad telling me that my problems in high school won’t matter in a few years, and I always just thought they didn’t understand. Well, they do. Listen to Mom and Dad and appreciate them. Soon they won’t be around every single day. Spend your time focusing on school, not trying to impress the people that only tear you down.
Take each day as it comes, and don’t worry about the little things. Love yourself; feel comfortable to wear what you want and be who you are. That’s the way God made you and that is the girl you were meant to be and show the world. Stay close to your friends. You don’t need to be the “popular girl” that has tons of friends. Your close-knit circle will be so much better, and you will need them. Most importantly, know that I am here. And I will be here when you are crying over that same cute boy in science class. I’ll tell you that you are beautiful and that he’s just another stupid boy that doesn’t deserve your heart.
So my sweet baby sister, trust that I am right and everything will turn out OK. I have been in your shoes and know it seems impossible, but it’s not. I love you with all of my heart, and never for a second doubt yourself.
Love always,
Your Big Sister
