Open Letter To Young Mothers

Your strength is overlooked and I want to shed a light to it.

Dear Young Mothers,

I want to start off by thanking you for being strong. It takes a lot to be a mother, especially a young mother. As a young mother you have to sacrifice important things in your life like education and jobs in order to prioritize the beautiful gift of a baby. Know that your sacrifice is greatly appreciated and even though it’s hard now in the long run it will be worth it!

As a young mother, I know you deal with judgement from all sorts of people saying, “You made a mistake. You’re not old enough to be a mother.” I want you to know that those judgmental people do not understand your situation, so of course all they can do is judge. Do not let them get to your head because you can be the greatest mother out there and age doesn’t define your abilities; all it takes is sacrifice and unconditional love. You might regret having a baby so young but at this point all you can do is embrace your situation and make the most out of it. Remember that your child must come first and that requires you to ignore judgmental people and do what’s best for your child.

I know it’s hard for you to deal with all the sacrifice and with people judging you. Remember to focus on yourself, too. Work on self-development and even going to a therapist to help you work out any issues you are having within yourself. In order for your child to grow up healthy, you must be mentally and physically healthy too. On the flip side, understand that it’s OK to have regrets. We are all human and make mistakes so there is no such thing as no regrets. The best thing for you to do is accept your regrets and learn from them. Use your regrets to grow as an individual and as a mother.

Lastly, remember that there is no perfect mother. Mothers will make mistakes like forgetting to change the baby’s diaper, but that does not mean you’re a bad mother. To me, a mother is someone who makes mistakes and goes through adversity but still manages to put their child first and love them continuously. Young mothers are under-appreciated and I want to make it clear to young mothers that they are good examples of perseverance and strength which everyone is the world needs. Your sacrifice and hard work for the health and well-being of your children will not come easy but it is an everlasting journey of motherhood and even though you started that journey a little early, know that you’re still capable.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
