Dear skeptics of love,

What is love? We can look it up in the dictionary and be given the true definition, but is that what we really want? Does our love even fall under the Webster Dictionary definition? How do you define love? Is love the comfort feeling you get when you wake up in the arms of your partner? How about the wave of relief that washes over you when you see them after what felt like forever? Everyone views love differently because no two loves are exactly the same. Why should there even be a definition for the word?

There are many people who are skeptics when it comes to love. They view it as something fake or a waste of a feeling because it has been tainted. I was once a skeptic. The words i love you seemed to be something that was stupid. Who even really loves something besides their pets? To me, my love for my pets was the only true love I had. Family falls under a different love since we are forced to love them. Now, when it came to relationships, never once did I share a i love you because my mind was clouded with all the wrongs that have been linked to love. You have divorce, ugly breakups, cheating, fighting, you name it, it tainted it. I always believed that if I said those three words something bad would happen and I would be destroyed. I've seen the movies.

This feeling towards the three words soon changed. It is quite hard to explain it. The way he held me and looked me in the eyes as the words fell from his lips seemed to wash away all the negativity I had linked to love. I felt as if he was not going to hurt me; he was my safe haven I felt. All the i love you's that I share with him to this day seem to hold a much deeper meaning then the one before. Is it true love that I have found or is hearing those words from someone mean that love is not all that bad?

So, I write this to all the love skeptics out there. Let your partner say those words, it may change you. I love you is a powerful statement that can change how you look at love. What is love? Now, that is a question for you to answer for yourself, it is a question for you to solve for yourself. Dear skeptics, give love a chance so you can answer the difficult question.
