Dear Future Me

A letter to who I will be in the future

Dear Future Me
Kaylin Mauro

Dear Future Me,

I hope when you're reading this in five, ten, fifteen years that you are smiling, that you are laughing.

I hope that you have graduated college and are on your way to a masters degree or hey, maybe you accomplished that already! You always did well in school and had the potential for such greatness. I hope that all the hardworking earned you the 4.0 GPA that we wanted from the start. At this point in life, I imagine you sitting in that Broadway pit on a show, playing your heart out like you wished when you were in the eighth grade. I hope that all that practicing paid off and you continue to do so everyday, striving to get better and never stop. Music has been our heart and should for so long, never let it go.

At this point in your life, I hope that you have your own place in the city and a house on the beach. In all honesty, I hope you got those both on your own through your hard work and dedication. I see those beautiful summers spent at the beach just like we loved every year. I can see the boat docked out in the bay, carrying all the things needed for the beach, on our shoulders. Jumping the waves at the beach, soaking in the sun even though it requires gallons of sunscreen on our pale skin. I can see Central Park from our apartment, the beautiful sight of traffic on the streets, people buzzing day in and day out. Everyone going places, just like you.

I hope that at this point, you have never experienced heartbreak again. I hope that if you have lost someone you love, you realize for sure this time, that they have lost you. I also hope that you have found the man of your dreams, if not, don't stress. There is still time to fall in love again and find someone that loves you deeply. If you found that person, I hope there are kids in the picture, or in your close future. If they are there now, I know you are the happiest that you could ever be and that you are an amazing mother.

If those kids are still not around, I hope you traveled the world! I hope you made stops in Italy, France, Greece, Bermuda, India, Egypt, England, Rio, Australia, where ever you could have flown to. I hope it was everything we ever thought it would be, everything that we dreamed it would be. If you haven't yet, there is time. There is so much time left for you to visit those places and make those amazing memories.

I don't know if you'll be reading this in five, ten, fifteen or twenty year, but when you do, maybe not all these expectations will be met. And maybe the things I planned for you, didn't line up the way they should, and that isn't a bad thing. Life is unpredictable, life doesn't ever really stay on course. My number one hope for you, in the end of the messes and experiences of life, that you found yourself. You found who you truly are and what you want from life. I hope that you feel whole and that you aren't scared to stand on your own because you are brave, powerful and strong. If nothing else in life was meant to work out for you the way I planned, I just hope you found who you are because that's what you deserve, what I deserve. I'm working hard for you, by the time you read this I know it will have paid off.

Love Always,

Past You xoxo

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
