Open Letter To The Best Roommate Ever

I will miss dancing in the middle of our room floor to Shawn Mendes.

Open Letter To The Best Roommate Ever
St. Rose Neighborhood

Normally I try to stay away from writing open letters, but since the semester is just about over and I'm moving out of my dorm room in literally two days, I feel that it is necessary. When I first came into college, my biggest worry was whether or not I was going to get along with my roommate. I will say this: my roommate has made a huge impact on creating the best first-year experience of college I've ever had!

Judging from my hall-mates, I know that my room mate and I were a perfect fit! It sounds a bit cliche I know, but If I have any other roommate, I believe it would be a downgrade ... no offense to my future roommate in the fall of 2016.

Now that I think about it, I don't believe me and my room mate have ever actually argued with each other which most people will perceive as a lie. Well, it's not. This is because my roommate and I know each other pretty well. We avoid pushing each other's buttons and knows how stay out of one another's way when needed.

One day we may be getting multiple noise complaints at 1:00 a.m. because we are too busy yelling at the Black Ops zombies, and the next moment we may pulling all nighters to write 10 page papers due the next morning. Regardless of what Virginia Wesleyan or life in general decides to throw at us, I am confident that my roomie has my back and I have hers.

I was extremely lucky to live with a person who cleans just as much as I do and whenever one of us came up short of something, the other would have it. When it came to groceries and snacks, there was never really a debate on who's was who's because we brought stuff to eat as a group and mainly shared everything.

One of the main things I love about my roommate is her ability to adapt to really any environment and her ability to remain open with people. Whenever her friends would come into the room, she would make sure that they acknowledged me first just to not be rude.

Those are the little things that makes up for being the greatest roommate ever! I also love the fact that my room mate understands me and my foolish ways. I can be a complete idiot around her and not feel an ounce of shame. Most likely, she is probably joining me and my silliness and then security is knocking on our door again for yet another noise complaint.

Needless to say, it dearly saddens my heart that this semester is just about over and we have to move away from each other for a few months and won't be living together next semester either. Roommate, I have enjoyed this year thus far with you and hope to enjoy many more together. Although we will not be living together anymore, I hope the distance does not destroy our friendship. I love you dearly and want to let you know that I'm always here for you if you need someone to vent to late at night or share random potato stories with!

- Your #1 Roomie,

Grandma Shaniece

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
