My senior year of high school, I had the opportunity to take two classes where I worked with the special needs students at the school. I helped them out in their theater, gym, and math classes and it was one of the best opportunities I have had so far. This is to the kids I with.
Dear students of the 400 wing,
For most people, their favorite part of high school is graduation, dances, or the fun memories they made in class. Those were all great, but for me my favorite memory, and one that I will talk about for years to come, was working with you everyday.
Everyday I spent with you I became more sure of my desires to study special education. I looked forward everyday to walking into your classroom to be greeted with your enthusiastic smiles, hugs, and high fives. I always came home and told my parents about what I did with you, from teaching you how to throw a ball to getting an opportunity to plan and teach you guys a math lesson. I probably annoyed everyone with all the funny stories I told them about you!
I know not every day was easy. We both had days where we were frustrated and questioned our abilities. But during our time together, you continued to amaze me. Each and every one of you made tremendous progress, physically, mentally, and socially. Just know that every time you made a major breakthrough, I was so proud I wanted to cry (and I know you were, too).
It has been many months since I graduated and I still miss you all so very much. My dorm room is filled with pictures of you guys, and I look at them everyday and think of our times together and wonder how you are doing.I wonder how you guys are doing in your classes and what progress you have made. I wonder how those of you who have graduated are adjusting to the adult education program. I wonder what students you’re making an impact on this year.
I can’t even begin to tell you how much of an impact of you made on me. Not only did you inspire me in my choice of career, you inspired me as a friend, student and person. You guys are the most loving, friendly, and caring individuals that I know, and I can’t thank you enough for always putting a smile on my face. I love y’all more than I can ever say, and you will always be in my heart. Continue to be the lovely souls you are, impacting the lives of all you come in contact with. I hope I can come visit you soon.
Your friend,
Meghan
