Thank You For Being Strong Enough To Live With Me

An open letter to my superhero roommate.

Thank You For Being Strong Enough To Live With Me
Sierra Krohnemann

Dear Roomie,

I remember the first day that we met, during orientation week, when we were sitting next to each other in the theater. I’ll never forget the start of such a beautiful friendship, but how could I? We were both terrified to start a new chapter in our lives, and yet, we laughed together.

We spent the first year getting to know one another; dealing with every drama, every late night homework sesh and every gym date that came our way and now –– we are roommates,

And it is wonderful.

Being your roommate has been so influential on my college experience. I love our early morning talks while I drink coffee and you eat yogurt from your bed. I love ranting to you about boy issues, lame professors, or people that we both don’t like very much. I love how we are both elderly woman that go to bed at only a little after eleven while everyone else stays up until sun rise.

Those things have made college, for me, such a beautiful and safe place.

I love going home and immediately missing you, counting down the days until we can hang out again. Leaving home for college is always hard, but you make it just a little easier to come back to.

Thank you for always having an open ear when I need to rant about the latest problems in my social and love life.

Thank you for not hating me for talking in my sleep and occasionally waking you up in the morning when I make coffee.

Thank you for surprising me with sweet treats or just kind words on sticky notes.

Thank you for dressing me up and letting me borrow your clothes; we both know that I only wear sweats.

Thank you for not judging me for anything I say or do.

Thank you for letting me rant about missing my dog.

Thank you for always having my back, even if what I say it completely ridiculous

And most of all, thank you for being my roommate.

We could have been the type of roommates that see each other once a day and rarely talk to one another, but it was never like that, and I feel so blessed to be able to call you my best friend.

I feel like I won the roommate jackpot when I talk about you. In reality, I won an even better thing; a forever friend.

Let’s make this semester just another to remember!

I love you always and forever,

Your roomie

P.S. Happy Birthday Riles!!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
