Dear iPhone,
I love you. I will openly admit that I am 100 percent tied to you. Of course I am since I keep you right by my side 24/7, 365 days a year. Staying away from you for a 75-minute class period feels like an eternity, so losing you is a thought I can't bear to imagine.
Thank you for everything you do, iPhone. Without you, I might not be able to keep up with the happenings of all the people I don't really like. Or I might miss out on seeing a selfie of someone I can't stand. Or maybe I'd be able to actually focus on the conversation I'm having with the people around me. You contribute so much to my life, it makes a lot of sense that I can't spend a minute without you. You've made the wonder of social media a necessity, and I'm sure everyone is so very grateful for that. Because, of course, what would the world be like today if social media wasn't so important? Probably worse off, right? Who knows—in that world, everyone would probably be talking face-to-face all the time and only be able to keep up with the lives of the people we actually love and care about. What a nightmare of a world that would be to live in.
Thank you, iPhone, for making me who I am today. Someone who loves to keep my life in order according to what I've posted lately on my Instagram or Snapchat story. I love who I've become because I'm addicted to handing out "likes" on my newsfeeds instead of calling up my friends.
Maybe you're not totally responsible, iPhone, but I can't help but thank you for all you've contributed.
There's so many things that are so great about you, too. I can find little restaurants nearby wherever I am that I wouldn't have known about on my own. I can take photos of the little things and make other people see the beauty in something that wouldn't have been noticed otherwise. I love that you spread art and writing around faster than ever before, and offer me the ability to listen to endless music whenever I'm at. I can edit my photos, talk to my mom, and get directions to where I want to go, all in one place. My life is fuller and has more potential because I have so much information at my fingertips.
I can live a greater, more knowledgeable life, but while doing so, miss out on the things that are happening around me.
I love you, iPhone, and I hate you. And I don't think I'll ever know which one I mean or believe more.
Sincerely,
An avid iPhone user
