Dearest Big,

How did this happen? It feels like just yesterday I was anxiously waiting in front of that curtain to find out who was on the other side, and to see who I'd be calling my big sister. I can’t even describe how grateful I am that it was you. Everyone says it’s OK if you aren’t best friends with your big, but I’m so glad we became the best of friends. On the day I got you, I remember being shocked that this awesome, hilarious, beautiful, intimidating, cool and influential older member had chosen me out of all of my pledge class to be her little. Now I know that we're the perfect fit and that you're always going to be the yin to the yang. Time has flown by, and in a few weeks you'll be walking across that stage and starting your life as an actual adult, and I'm simply in denial that we will no longer be together.

Thank you for being my family when I wasn’t able to be with mine. You have gone above and beyond what is expected from a big, and I am so incredibly lucky to call you mine. You have been through all of the ups and downs and have given me some of the best advice. You have guided me through so many obstacles and have given me so much support over these past four years. Thank you for taking care of me, for being there for me always and for being just as goofy as me. Life is so much more fun because I have you by my side. Thank you for the reassuring texts and encouraging me when I had my doubts. Thank you for being the shoulder I cry on, and for being the arms I jump into whenever something great happens. Thank you for being my fill-in mom and for being the best big in the game. Thank you for being my partner in crime always, and for being one of the most influential people I’ve met at college. Thank you for simply changing my life.

I am so incredibly proud of you! I know that might sound silly because I’m the little, but it’s so true. I’ve seen how hard you’ve worked and I cannot wait for you to be recognized for all of your accomplishments! I know that you’re going to take the word by storm, and I can’t wait to see the great things you’re going to do!

I can’t express how sad I am that we’re no longer going to be a maximum of eight minutes away form each other (because we’re lame and actually counted). The beach trips, the movie marathons, the shopping trips, the fro-yo dates, the early morning heart-to-hearts and every other small moment we’ve spent together have meant so much to me. I am forever grateful for the adventures that we’ve gone on together, but we both know they aren’t going to stop just because the distance between us increases.

Our friendship has meant the world to me, and I couldn’t have asked for a better mentor, dance partner, housemate, soul sister, future bridesmaid or best friend. You’re simply irreplaceable and I know that our friendship is going to last long beyond the days we both say goodbye to the wonderful place that brought us together.

Thank you for all that you’ve done, and for simply being a big (lol) blessing in my life.

I love you, and I can’t wait to see what our futures have in store for us! Get ready for endless face time dates and for never ending ‘I miss you’ texts.

Love, your forever little

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
