To my big brother,
I know we have fought a bit more than usual this year which is a little bit odd since I live so far away while I’m at school and you’re at home in Texas. I also know that I’m not always the easiest person to get along with and that I’m a bit of a mess at times. Yet, no matter what, you still put up with me. So, this is a thank you letter to you as I get ready to return to school.
Thank you for letting me hang out with you and your friends, even though I am your annoying little sister. Even growing up, you always tried to make sure I was included and to this day, you still don’t care (that much) when I decide to crash your time with your friends. I know it’s not always the greatest thing when your baby sister wants to hang out with you but you never really shoved me away.
Thank you for all the fun car rides we have where we just sing at the top of our lungs and laugh until we can’t see. These rides are probably some of my most favorite moments with you because I know I can just let loose and not care about anything. I miss them all the time when I’m away at school. On top of that, I also love all of our lunch trips where we just talk about stupid things and rant about people who make us mad. I always look forward to them because I know they are never boring.
Thank you for listening to all of my drama, even though you probably don’t care at all. I feel like every time something happens in my life, you’re the first one to know even if it doesn’t involve anyone you know. Yet, you listen and do what you can to make me feel better.
Thank you for naturally accepting my friends as your siblings, no matter how weird or loud we can get. You’ve gone above and beyond not only for me, but for them throughout the years as well. You’ve taken us to the movies, you let us into your apartment and you even picked them up when I wasn’t around. The fact that you treat them like family, even though you don’t have to, I’m really thankful for.
This one is a big one, thank you for being my coach in high school and not giving up on me even though I know I can have a bit of a temper when it comes to bowling. You already had a full schedule with work amongst other things but you still made time for me and my team when it came to bowling. You put up with me even when I didn’t listen to you or made snide comments when something didn’t work out. I learned most of what I know about bowling from you and you helped mold me into the bowler I am today. You pushed me to be the best that I could be and without you, I probably would not have been bowling in college.
Lastly, thank you for loving me unconditionally. I know we fight and get mad with each other but I know at the end of the day, you’re always going to be there for me. Things have been said between the both of us that have been hurtful in the past yet you don’t hold it against me. I know I can annoy you or get involved in situations you don’t want me involved in but I do it because I love you. I don’t think I tell you how much you mean to me but I don’t know what I’d do without you by my side for these past 19 years. Thank you for being the best big brother I could ask for.
Much love,
Your little sister
