You're my best friend, always.

An Open Letter To My Big Brother
Rachael Stewart

Hi big brother,

I just wanted to start off and say that I love you so much!

Growing up you have always been my best friend. We have been through so many highs and so many lows in life, and I would not want it any other way. I value our relationship so much in life. It is crazy sitting here thinking if you were not the one person I grew up with and shared so many memories with.

I will never forget the countless of episodes of "Sponge Bob," "Barney," or "Big Brother" that we watched together. Or the times dad would make you and I wrestle each other because he found it amusing. Or all of our Disney trips we would take. Especially our lunch dates we always go on because those are the times it is just you and I talking and enjoying each others presence.

You make me laugh, cry, and get mad at more than anybody else I have ever met. But that is okay because you are my big brother, and that is what you are supposed to do. You have taught me so many things in life that I will always keep dear to me. There are so many things I have learned from you, and I do not think that you or I have even realized yet.

As we are growing up and getting to that age where we are leaving the nest that mom and dad grew us up in, I must say it is scary! We grew up with perfect parents, and now we have to leave and move out. But I think the hardest thing is leaving you.

I cherish our relationship so much. I hate the days I do not see you or the days I do not get the chance to talk to you. It is weird knowing that sooner or later when I come home for a break, you will not be there anymore. Your room will be empty with none of your belongings and it is going to be so weird without you in the house. But remember, I am you little sister so I will always be over!

You and I have a lot of differences between us. I like a lot of things that you do not, and you like a lot of things that I do not. And it is weird that with those differences you and I still share this amazing bond. I do not think anyone understands what we have together. No one gets us besides us.

Our family has a lot of family functions, and I honestly could not get through them without you. You are always my go-to, my number one. I would rather spend my time with you over any of my friends.

I will always keep a special place for you in my heart that no one else could ever take that spot from you.

When we grow up and have our families I know that you and I will still have a close bond, I hope that one day when I have children they are as close to each other like you, and I was. I want my kids to understand that even though they might be two totally different people that are what makes the bond so special.

I love you tons, Bubba!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
