Dear Mr. Trump,
My father is a (legal) immigrant from a tiny village in Central Mexico. Although things have rarely been easy, he has never been a victim of circumstance. He could only attend public school until he was 12 because his family could no longer afford for him to continue. Soon after he was working 60 plus hours a week, tending to the irrigation fields. By age 18, he had saved enough money to buy a work permit and come to the U.S. in search of the "American Dream."
Picking himself up by his bootstraps, he taught himself English while going through the process to get his GED, and then he put himself through college. Not only is my father the most hardworking man I have ever met, but his intelligence is limitless. He doesn't ask for much: his biggest dream is for my sister and I to utilize every opportunity we are given -- the ones he never got -- and reach our full potential.
So you want to "build a wall" to keep out immigrants like my father? To stop the "uncontrollable" influx of immigrants (mostly Hispanics) into the United States because they bring nothing to the table but crime and drugs? Did you know that Mexican immigration to the U.S. has stagnated because the number of Mexicans LEAVING is higher than the number of Mexicans actually coming in? I know it's unfathomable to think that most Mexicans are like my father: extremely hardworking and humble. But if you did your research, you would know that immigrants are actually less likely than the native-born to be serious criminals.
Sure, there are a few bad apples who spoil the bunch; however, it is incredibly ignorant and insulting to my father, my culture, and to me when you say that all Mexican immigrants are criminals and rapists. That is an extreme generalization. But I expect nothing more from a man who born with a silver spoon almost literally in his mouth. Self-made? I don't think so.
I find it terrifying that someone like you could even be considered in the presidential election. You are sexist, racist, and in my opinion, a horrible human being, and you are not fit to run our country -- my country, my father's country.
Sincerely,
A proud Mexican American
