A Thankyou Letter To My Parents

Here's Everything I've Never Said Thank You For

A Thankyou Letter To My Parents
Chloe Rummel

Everyone always says they have the best parents, but they are wrong because I have the best parents. No, my parents are not perfect; no, they do not buy me everything I have ever wanted, nor do they allow me to do whatever I want, but they have taught me so many things and I want to thank them.

Thank you for always being honest with me.

You never really babied me or tiptoed around the truth. You never used the lines “you’re too young to understand” or said, “I’ll explain when you’re older.” You were always upfront and honest about things, and I never knew how beneficial it was to me until I grew up.

Thank you for always sharing your mistakes.

Most parents ignore their past and are super strict with their own kids because of their past. Y’all were always upfront about your past (good or bad) and it made me gain so much respect for you. Knowing that you guys never expected perfection from us and only our best made growing up so much easier.

Thank you for being my parents, and not my friends.

Although at some points I wanted y’all to be my friends and not my parents, you always stood your ground. You were always exactly who I needed y’all to be, and were always there with open arms no matter how many times I screwed up. You set boundaries and expectations that were achievable and not detrimental. Although y’all are my friends now, I’m glad you chose to be my parents.

Thank you for always teaching me about what is important.

You’ve instilled values in me that most kids in my generation are lacking, and it makes me stand out of the crowd. You always taught me to focus on the inside and not the outside. You've always taught me about forgiveness and to not judge. You’ve always taught me to remember the three most important aspects of life: faith, family, and friends.

Thank you for raising me old-fashioned.

Thank you for making me do chores. Thank you for teaching me how to clean the house. Thank you for teaching me how to cook. Thank you for showing me all the classic music. Thank you for raising me in church. Thank you for busting my butt and disciplining me when I needed it. All that I have accomplished is completely thanks to y’all.

Thank you for always showing me what true love is.

Although you guys are high school sweethearts and that is hard to live up to, I know you guys aren’t perfect. You’ve always been open with your struggles and your problems. I have seen a real-life love story through y’all, and have been taught that true love takes hard work.

Thank you for teaching me exactly what kind of parents I want to be.

Y’all are the most understanding parents. Y’all have always been the “cool” parents. Y’all have always been the exact kind of parents I want to be to my kids. The way you love, forgive, discipline, and listen are the traits I hope to carry with me some day. I’m so glad my kids will have y'all as grandparents.

I can never thank you enough for everything you've done for me, but I guess putting it into words is a start. I love y’all so much and am so thankful y’all are my parents.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
