Dear Courtney,
I guess I shouldn’t say “stole.” I gave it to you extremely willingly and it is easily one of the best decisions of my life. I know I’ve written you a thousand letters over the past year but I guess I wanted to write another and I wanted to write one for people to see, for people to see how I feel about you. I mean, everyone already knows, but I guess there’s something beautiful about throwing it out there for the world to see. To see how two people feel about each other.
So without further ado, my letter. I was a pissed off kid my Senior year and even up to the day I found you. Nothing had went my way for the past year. I knew I wasn’t going anywhere special for school. I didn't have the grades for Emerson, nor the money for Roger Williams. That left Bridgewater State as my default school, so to be honest, I wasn’t super excited about the thought of going there. I knew it was my only way of going away for school and so I swallowed my pride and went and decided BSU was it and for about 4 days, everything went alright, and then on the fourth day. September 1, 2015. This girl came knocking on my room 115 door. Her name was Courtney Canale and she ended up flipping my world absolutely upside down.
The truth is about this girl is every day since I have met her has been an adventure, and beautiful, and everyday is always better than the last and we laugh so much, and she makes me smile. For the first time ever, every moment spent with this girl, I am absolutely and completely happy and that’s all that matters in this life if you’re happy.
More than that, how she has made me a better person. Every day since I have known her, she has made me want to better man, a better friend, a better coach, a better teacher, a better leader and a better writer. She made me realize that if I never truly get more into my writing, I never become a novelist or a screenwriter. That’s okay because there’s more important things in life, but she also made me realize I can do it. She made me realize way more that if I set my mind to it to anything that I can do it and I know she will be right there always cheering me on with every success and I know I will always be there for her.
I know these probably just sound like the musings of some lovestruck 19 year old kid that doesn’t get it yet, but trust me, I do. I know I do. I know now. I know now what love is.
Forever yours and love always,
Dennis Begley
P.S. I love you more
