First, I want to start by saying that I have been there.
I have loved people who did not love me back.
I have given people chance after chance when they did not deserve one.
I have let people degrade me and I would still come back.
I have learned that people will hurt you. I have spent my whole life loving people. I gave and gave and gave. The only problem was that I was never giving that love to myself. I never took the time to love myself.
I thought that if I loved someone enough that they would eventually love me back. I thought that if I showed compassion to someone that I would get it back. Wrong! You have to learn to love yourself, even when it is so easy not to.
I have laid awake some nights thinking about how stupid I was. I spent so much time hating myself for the things that I was doing. It was not until I started to love myself that I could fix myself.
Once you love yourself, you allow others to love you as well. You have to accept that you are messy.
You're gonna love that person who broke you.
You're gonna be moody every now and then.
You're gonna cry when you watch cheesy movies.
You're gonna stalk hot girls on Instagram wishing that was you.
You're gonna have bad days.
You're gonna have broken hearts.
But you are strong enough to make it. You can do whatever you set your mind to. And someone will love you and your messy self.
You know how moms love to hang up their kid's paintings? You look at it and it looks like Crayola just threw up on the paper, but to them it is the most beautiful blob of color. Someone will love you like that one day. Someone will want to show you off and will be proud of you, the true you.
And if you watch "Parks and Recreation," you know just how much Leslie loves Ann. You will find those people too. The ones that will always support you no matter how dumb you may be.
You see, the same God that created this world created you, too.
That awe and amazement that you feel when you look at the stars on a clear night or the sunset on a summer day is the same way that God feels when He looks at you. It is the same feeling you will have for someone one day, and it will be mutual. Because you are worth it. You are enough.
So whoever you are, you are worth it. Don't let anyone make you think that you aren't enough.
Tell that guy that you deserve better.
Tell that friend that they are toxic to you and you are stronger than that.
Show this world what you are made of.
And in the wise words of Justin Bieber, "Go and Love Yourself."
