Dear Summer Internship,
Walking in my first day this summer, I wasn't sure what to expect. I have heard so much of the company's greatness and have even seen it in action. However, I never knew of many of the people at the company and I didn't know what kind of impact they would have on me.
I'm leaving in a couple days now, so I want to express how much this internship meant to me.
I brought all of my dreams and aspirations into this internship. I had dreams about the career I would have one day. Now I'm leaving this internship with realistic goals and aspirations. The internship laid out a road of potential in front of me.
My internship educated me in a way that school never could. It trained me professionally and personally.
Professionally, I now understand how a successful business runs. I learned about processes, the projects, how to formally communicate, how to give constructive criticism, how to take criticism, and finally: how to use Excel. Learning Excel has change the way I forever organize myself.
I also learned some other bits of wisdom: that there will be a day in 10 years where I will need a chiropractor. I learned to never have kids unless I plan on having a life on the go. I learned there's a difference between mom tired and regular tired. I learned that hour commutes are possible. I learned you can pursue a passion even while working full time. Finally, I learned that this is what my life is going to be like in the next couple of years. I had a taste of reality. I realized that having a job means no long breaks. It means you work hard but also play hard.
Finally, I also learned a bit about company culture. Yes, coworkers are there so you can work with them. However, we can't help but form bonds with each other. Inside jokes are made. Everyone compliments you when you succeed. And, coworkers help you through the days when emotions get the better of you. You spend the greater amount of your day with these people. You end up swapping stories and having laughs. Even though it is all about the work, strong bonds are built.
Even through the exhausting days, I couldn't be happier to be living the working life, if only for the summer.
Before I wrap up this article, I want to thank my boss and mentor. I learned so much being your apprentice.
I want to thank my office mates for the laughs, the talks and the life advice. The things you have said will stick with me.
Finally, I wanted to thank everyone at the company that has touched my life. Learning about your roles, your background, your passions gave me so much inspiration. I hope to be pieces of all of you later in life.
Thank you again for the amazing experience this summer!
Sincerely,
The Summer Intern
