Let me start you off with a story…
Imagine this:
There is 13-year-old girl who had a great childhood and was living a fairly normal teenage life. She has two loving parents, always went to church, believed in God, had a lot of friends, and thought things were all going right for her. Then suddenly, one day changed all of that.
Her dad had a heart attack that killed him. The pain she feels is so unexplainable. She starts to question why God would even take her dad away from her.
A couple years pass, then she gets the news that her mom has cancer. The cancer was so strong that it killed her mom just four days after she was diagnosed with it. That night, this girl questions everything…her faith, her life, and just her existence in general.
This girl becomes an atheist at 16 years old. She could not believe that there was this “all-loving” God who would allow her parents to be taken from her. Eventually, she becomes severely depressed and suicidal. She had no hope for herself. Then, on a cold January night, she was close to taking her life. As she was getting closer and closer to taking her life, God comes to the rescue. That's right – God comes to the rescue to save this girl who was about to take her life. Even though she did not believe in God, He still saw hope within her.
I am this girl. Hard to believe, right? It can be hard to believe that the broken soul that I used to be transformed into the person I am today. I am here to tell you that everything will be OK. Hear me out on this and take my word.
Almost every Christian that I have met has had a rough past of some sort. We have all had questioned our faith and we have even questioned if God exists at all. Even now, there are times when still have those questions. I promise you, this is normal and there is nothing wrong with you. I know what it means to hurt. If you are reading this and you are toggling your faith around, having no idea what to do with it, I have been in your shoes.
For all I know, someone reading this right now might be in the same situation I was in on that January night. If this happens to be you, I am talking to you right now. Please do not go through with this. I promise you that things will get better. I know that can sound cliché, but it means something when it comes from someone who knows exactly what you are feeling.
This point in your spiritual walk can seem very dark. I promise you, if you seek God, then God will be the light for your darkness.
“The light shines in the darkness; and the darkness did not comprehend it.” John 1:5
There is no darkness that can match up against the light that God has to offer. Take it from someone who walked down some of the darkest paths you could ever imagine – there will be light again.
Even if you do not have the energy to run to God, He will run to you. I did not run to Him. He found me in a dark hole while I was ready to take my own life. There will be open arms waiting for you, ready to love you. There will be a day when all of this pain will make sense.
To anybody who is struggling with their faith, just trust that God has a plan for you. He has the power to make something broken into something absolutely beautiful. Face your darkness and know that God is on your side. You are a warrior and you can do all things through Christ. You can do it…I promise.
I also want you to know that I care. A big thing that I struggled with was wondering if anybody cared that I was struggling with my faith. If you ever need someone to talk to, please do not hesitate to direct message me on Twitter (my direct messages are ALWAYS open) or send me a message on Facebook. I want you to know that it will all be OK. God will always be with you.
