I love all moms. Y'all are great. Every mother is irreplaceable and unique to every kid out there. Whether you are a single or a married mother, at the end of the day the love is all the same. It's all unconditional and transparent; however, I, among hundreds of thousands of other kids, grew up in two homes. There has always been this stigma that not being one family unit hinders the personal growth of the children involved when that's really never been the case. It is all about the unconditional love and the undivided attention that a parent dedicates, and I have been beyond fortunate to have been the recipient of such love.
So to my kick-ass single moms out there, here's to you.
Thank you for putting on a brave face when it seems like the walls are caving in.
Thank you for working multiple jobs to put food on our table and clothes on our backs.
Thank you for getting up at the crack of dawn to make us breakfast, get us ready and send us to school; thank you for helping us with homework, making dinner and doing it every day without help.
Thank you for not just being a mother, but a best friend. And a chauffeur. And a personal chef. And a teacher. And freakin' bad ass.
Thank you for showing us that you don't need a man to do it all. You just need a cup of coffee and positive energy.
And to my own single mom, thank you. I wish I could be there to grab you your morning Starbucks and be lazy with you all day; however, I am out here in the bay area kicking ass so that one day I can buy you everything in Pottery Barn that your heart desires.
There is not a day that goes by that I don't recognize and thank God for the sacrifices you made for my brother and me. It has never been about moving from home to home or what was going to be under the Christmas tree. Having you as a mother has been the greatest gift I could ever ask for.
I’ll love you forever, I’ll like you for always, as long as I’m living my mom you’ll be.
Happy Mother's Day.
