An Open Letter To All The Single Ladies on Valentine's Day

Hey, all you single ladies! You know who you are. February 14th is probably your most dreaded day of the year- Valentine's day. The day where Instagram and Facebook are full of sappy posts your friends make about their significant others. While I love gushing over their seemingly perfect relationships, tomorrow is a day for you to love yourself. Take the time tomorrow to treat yourself, because the only person you need in your life is YOU! Watch your favorite movie, take a bubble bath, eat your favorite food, tomorrow is your day and you can spend it however you want.

Girls run the world, as Beyonce tells us, and us girls don't always have time to take a break from this daunting task. We are constantly busied with the responsibilities of working (or studying to prepare for our jobs), exercising, and constantly getting ready. I have timed my makeup and hair routine and on average it takes me about 45 minutes. That is a lot of time and energy spent every day to just get ready to get out of the house. On Valentine's day, don't even worry about putting on makeup or doing your hair. Stay in your P.J.'s and watch your favorite movie. Ignore the responsibilities of life and instead focus on yourself. Spend some time journaling or reading your favorite book. Draw, bake, or listen to music, do something that makes you happy. Some of my favorite things to do are listen to the "Peaceful Piano" playlist on Spotify and journal or read. I also love to paint my nails or put on a face mask to treat my body.

One of my resolutions for the New Year was to focus more on loving myself. This task is often easier said than done, especially on days like Valentine's day, but the rewards you will reap are priceless. Mandy Hale says it best, “[Being] single is an opportunity to live life on your own terms and not apologize.” Don’t feel ashamed of your relationship status, embrace it. Be thankful you don't have to stress all day about what you are going to wear on your date or if your text was too pushy. Get together with your other single friends and go out to dinner, see a movie, or have a girls night in. Lavish yourself with special products like face masks, bath bombs, and scented lotions to pamper your body during this special day. February 14th is the day of love, but that doesn’t have to be love towards another person, it can be love towards yourself. Don't forget that your worth is not defined based on what other people think of you, remember what Kathryn Stockett said, "You is kind. You is smart. You is important."

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
