Dear Random Roommate,
I was extremely nervous to live with someone that I barely knew. I met you once, but I still wasn't ready to take on this new experience. Fortunately, I was paired with the best possible random roommate, and I'm aware that not everyone gets the chance to say that.
So, let me just start off by saying thank you. I honestly don't know where I would be without you. You were there when I had my first college crush, went to my first college theater audition, and let me cry on your shoulder when I came home from class (even if my crying was just because I was too tired to function). I want you to know how much I really appreciate everything you have done for me.
From our late night chats until 2 a.m. to random trips to get cheese dip at La Bamba, we knew how to have a good time. You always told me "Hey, knock it down five notches!" when I was acting too much like a freshman and taught me how to reach out my comfort zone and be myself. Because of you, I have been able to really open up to all of my opportunities on campus and you have helped me to show people who I truly am, which is something I never thought that I would be able to do.
With that being said, we both know that there were days that we wanted nothing to do with each other. Days when we would come back to our dorm and throw in some headphones, so we wouldn't have to become engaged in conversation. Although we made each other livid at times, we always knew when we needed to be there for the other.
Our schedules were extremely different, and we were still trying to live separate lives at the beginning, but you still made time for me and that made all the difference in our friendship. We made a few drastic mistakes, we laughed together, we cried together, and the memories made in this room I will always hold deep in my heart.
We don't live together any longer, but since then we've only grown stronger. I love that we FaceTime for hours even though you're only a five minute walk across campus and our La Bamba dates have become more frequent since we don't see each other all the time. My favorite days are when I come over just so we can take a nap.
I know this seems crazy, but I was scared that you wouldn't like me. I don't know why I made this assumption because now I have found my best friend, a sister, and a future bridesmaid.
Thank you for making my first year of college the best that it could be and letting me call this silly little dorm room we lived in "Our Humble Home".
Love,
Your Best
