An Open Letter To Professors Who Give Exams The Week After Spring Break

As we hit March, we all know what’s coming up: Spring Break. It is happening in under one week, and we are all excited. We are all excited until we hear the dreaded words from our professors, that there will be an exam the week after we all return from our spring break adventures. Although, generally speaking, a test farther away seems great because there is all the time in the world to prepare. However, a test right after returning from spring break means that we either forfeit studying for the exam or we forfeit our drunken week in the beach.

As a Senior, I am genuinely confused by this concept and want to sincerely ask our beloved professors what their beef is with their students and our excitement with the sunniest week of the year. What really is the reason behind this senseless crime? And so Professors that we love so very much, why do you do this?

Dear professors,

Do you love to see us squirm in our seats?

Do you actually eat a bowl of nails for breakfast like Arthur all warned us as youths?

Do you dream about your students skipping Mexico and the Bahamas and Panama City, trading this last form of fun as a college student for textbooks and flashcards?

Do you just love to torture your students?

Is it because of that one kid that never shows up so you’re punishing them? I will find them, if that's the case.

Are you trying to set a record for the most “F” grades among students?

Do you genuinely enjoy your spring break blown up with emails from students complaining about your exam?

Hello, there is an easy fix for this, it's called postpone it for one week. ONE WEEK, SEVEN DAYS, 168 HOURS.

So to fix this issue here’s what you can do to help you help us: postpone the exam.

Give yourself a carefree week at the beach.

Go on a shopping spree at the mall.

Start training for a 5K.

Read a new book.

Take naps, lots of naps.

We want to do well. We really do but giving us a test the week after spring break- we just can’t. So please, with all that is right and good in this world, please reschedule your exams for before break or the week after we get back. I know that as intellectual college students, it seems like we pass your exams with ease and finesse but it does take some time and studying. We are willing to put in that time, but go 50/ 50 on us and let us enjoy the break that we have been looking forward to so much. If you can do that, we give you our word that we will do whatever possible to ace your exam.

Signed,

Students literally everywhere.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
