Dear President,
As the campaign season is now in session, I cannot fathom what is going through your mind and at the White House. Maybe you are like every college student during finals week, cramming everything in at once, before you leave. Maybe you are cherishing every last moment you can in the White House, because you know that the moments will go too soon. Maybe you are looking forward to a so-called “normal” life with your wife and daughters. Maybe, just maybe you are wishing you could have one more term.
I cannot imagine the emotions that are overwhelming you when you are faced with the candidates running for your spot. Some probably frighten you, some you are probably thinking “Oh, I am voting for them,” and some you are considering moving to Canada if they take your seat in the Oval Office.
Just think about it. It’s like raising a child and then sending it off to college, except you have raised this “child” for eight years (EIGHT YEARS!) instead of 18. You have seen it at its worst, dragged it by its ear, and gave it the reality check that was long overdue. You have also seen it at its best. You were there through every victory no matter how big or small.
You were there when soldiers returned home, and when they left home. You were there to help and comfort when natural disasters struck and took homes, and even lives.
You were there in times of darkness and sadness when a shooting either in a movie theater, a school, between a police officer and a civilian, or in a church happened.
You were there when your “child” made history with the Obergefell v. Hodges decision. But now, you have a little over a year before you have to let it all go.
You have done your best and gave it your all. I think a “Congratulations” or a “Hip Hip Hooray” is in order. I know all too often people only see the things that you did not do, or the things that you should have done. They see the debt increase, ISIS, your affiliation, or the “scandals” that come along with living in the public eye. They forgot to see what you did do, and what you accomplished along the way (I think serving for two terms is an accomplishment in itself).
It cannot be an easy job, and I cannot fathom how this next year is going to be for you. I cannot imagine some of the decisions you have to make. It will probably be a rough day for you when you close the Oval Office door one last time, and walk out with your family and the Secret Service down the steps of the White House for the last time. But as you look at your family next to you, and as you look back up the stairs, I want you to remember that you left behind some pretty big shoes to fill, and a legacy that is irreplaceable. You have raised your “child” beyond expectations. Now, it is time to see what this American Dream is really made of.

I encourage all of you readers to be informed about this upcoming election. Find unbiased information, and vote for the candidate that you truly believe is the best for you. Weed out the false information that the media says and other candidates say about each other. Do not be a “one issue” voter, take into consideration each issue that the candidate stands for. And please vote, but be an informed voter! We are the next generation that is going to run this country.
