An Open Letter To A Potential Employer

I Can't Interview But Don't Let That Stop You

To the person considering hiring me,

First of all, thank you for taking the time out of your busy day to listen to me talk about how badly I want to work for you. You probably hear a lot of people talk up working with you/for you and while I am no exception, I appreciate your undivided attention.

But before we begin, know that I do not interview well.

I have ten thousand thoughts in my mind and suddenly draw a blank when you ask my first name. I have ideas that could change lives, but while sitting in your office talking to you all I can think about is "does my answer even make sense?"

Hiring me means putting my awful interview skills aside and looking at the type of person I am. You have seen me realize my own potential, and witnessed me grow exponentially in short amounts of time. You know some of my capabilities, and I can only hope that you give me the opportunity to prove to you that I am capable of so much more.

Look at what you see me do and imagine what I can bring. I might not be able to talk the talk, but given the opportunity I can walk the walk.

I am passionate beyond belief. I will push myself to no ends to make sure that if given this job, it will be done to my greatest ability and I will put my whole heart behind every action.

But here I am.

Sitting in your office stumbling for the words to string together to begin to explain why I even want this job and how I am even worthy. I find myself tugging on my clothing articles, smiling awkwardly and praying that the words coming out of my mouth are some how forming the words you want to hear.

There is nothing I want more than the opportunity to prove myself to you outside your office walls. Sitting in this chair I cannot even begin to share my abilities, but given the chance I promise you will have no regrets with your choice.

Thank you again,

Your potential employee

I want to say all of this as I sit in your office, but instead you ask if I have any questions.

I take a deep breath and manage to spit out the words,

"Thank you for taking the time out of your day to listen to me talk about how badly I want to work for you."

We both smile and I realize my interview is done and all that I wanted to say never left my mouth. I stand up, I extend my hand shaking your hand, sharing my sweaty palms with you hoping you don't notice and I walk out forcing myself not to look back.

And while I looked forward and kept walking, I continue to reflect on our conversation as I wait patiently for an answer...

Please know I am more than my interview.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
