To my Pledge Class:
A pledge class has a bond that is indescribable. It’s a place of comfort knowing we have sisters that knew us from the beginning. Some of us don’t even attend the same college as we did when we first joined. Looking back to bid day, we were all excited to have found our second home. Some of us chose to continue in the chapter and others began to move on before Initiation. We were so happy about the life we were beginning in college. On bid day, we felt like we had hit the jackpot. We were beaming of happiness because of how awesome it felt to finally have found sisters.
The new member process was stressful enough, but we had you guys by our sides to vent to, laugh with and to just get to know. We had people that were going through the same things as us. You were the people we could to turn to and obsess over the older members until we knew who our Big’s were. We would plan dinners for just our class. We were excited to go through this process, but you all were the people we got to share the exciting events and news that we would receive in the chapter. When we received our Big’s, you all knew how excited it was to FINALLY know who they were. Your pledge class is the people that know what you are going through and the nerves you have during the entire process.
Once you become initiated, you find your group. The people that will be there 110% of the time. The ones that you find yourself calling at 2 A.M. to come move your room around. You text these people for anything sad, exciting or scary thing that happens to you. Even if these people aren’t from your pledge class, you still hold a special place in your heart because they were there for you. This group of girls were there for your Big/Little reveal, Initiation and that first new member meeting. You all say you remember the founders, but you know you were too nervous for that meeting that it just went above your head.
You may look around your chapter room on that next bid day, feeling sad that your class is officially old. This is the time you are taking your little and having her go through Initiation. Your chapter has changed in the past few years, but you know there’s always going to be that connection you have with those girls. They will be there for that alumni ceremony when you officially end your time as an active. That’s when you look around the room with your eyes full of tears wondering where the time has gone? You may not believe it, but our class made a change to this chapter. Without us, there wouldn’t have been an impact to our littles or greek families. Our class changed something and with that, you girls will be the best thing that could have happened my freshman year. We changed through the years, but we still have that fire in us, we had on bid day. To the girls of my pledge class, thank you for being the family I had to go through Initiation. Even though we may not be as close, I still think about how much fun we had our first year. We are the OG’s of this chapter. With new girls joining in a few weeks, think of it as a time of happiness. We did help make this chapter what it is today. Keep doing what you’re doing…we still have a little more time with each other.
XOXO,
A fellow Panhellenic Sister
