Dear New Semester,

It's crazy to think that you've come back so soon. There's not nearly enough summertime, but I'm still excited that you're here. I know, it's shocking, not many students are excited to see you, but I'm glad that you're back. And, what comes with a new semester is a new start. So maybe I didn't have the perfect grades I wanted last semester, and maybe I didn't accomplish as much as I had hoped to, but this semester, I plan to do all that and more. So what if last semester wasn't the best? And so what if I struggled through it? A new semester means I have the chance to improve from the last. And, more importantly, I can take what I learned last semester and will keep it in mind for this one. By taking this steps, I know I will make this new semester much better than last semester:

1. Stay balanced

Classes, homework, studying, friends, and being involved on campus is a lot. Just remember that

2. Stay focused

If you have a break in between classes, maybe you should start your homework for the class you were just in. Even though the assignment may not be due for a couple days, you'll feel much better getting it done than if you spend your time watching Netflix.

3. Sleep

Everyone has different study habits. Some do better staying up late and doing work, while others do better doing it during the day. Regardless, make sure you are getting sleep, even if that means napping during the day.

4. Get ahead

On most syllabi, professors outline the entire semester for you. Take the time to look at what's due next week. If you don't have a lot of work to do, try and get ahead on the readings. That way, if something comes up next week, you don't have to worry about not getting it done.

5. Ask questions

Asking questions seems impossible at times. Do I dare to raise my hand and possibly embarrass myself in front of the whole class? Will my professor think I'm stupid or get annoyed? Surprisingly, most professors want you to ask questions. It shows that you are trying to understand the material and that you want to do well in their class.

6. Have fun

The most important thing of all. Yes, college is about studying and getting a degree, but that's not all there is to it. Make sure to enjoy yourself and have fun with your friends, too.

So, new semester, it seems that we'll be getting along just fine. Just remember, I will crush you (and I mean that in the nicest way possible).

Sincerely,

A Determined College Student

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Whether you met your new love interest online, through mutual friends, or another way entirely, you'll definitely want to know what you're getting into. I mean, really, what's the point in entering a relationship with someone if you don't know whether or not you're compatible on a very basic level?

Consider these 21 questions to ask in the talking stage when getting to know that new guy or girl you just started talking to:

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
