First off, I am beyond proud that you set mind to do something so great and now you're accomplishing your goal. I’m a crybaby when it comes to you because you are my best friend. I usually can text or call you and complain about stupid boys or pointless drama, but now you’re in boot camp and I can only communicate by letters. I miss you, but that in no way lessens how proud I am of you or my ability to say that I am your best-friend through thick and thin.
I know you won’t see this for a few more weeks, but I had to write it now so I wouldn’t get the “you don’t have to write about me” text. I’ll now get the, “Now why’d you write about me?” text, but I won’t be sorry for this because I just want you to know that everyone back home is so proud of you and what you are doing for this country. Your actions deserve recognition and I am more than happy to give it to you.
It’s crazy that just two years ago this was just a thought bubble and it seemed like it would never get here, yet here we are. Watching you pursue this has made me so proud. You didn’t know, but when I left your going away party, I cried like a baby because I knew it would be so hard not seeing you every day or not being able to text you and ask if you wanted to hangout.
Life gets crazy sometimes and being in the military can be difficult, but I just want you to know that you have an amazing group of people ready to be your shoulder to lean on. We are here for you through anything that happens as you venture into this new amazing chapter in your life just like you have been there for us.
Remember when my life got tough and I didn't know what to do and you sent me this Bible verse: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”? (Joshua 1:9) Your kindness to me then has helped me with so much and now I want you to remember that you can always find strength and courage within yourself.
Thank you for always being such a great best friend to me and treating me like I was your little sister. Never forget how proud I am of you. I'm so inspired by your decision to serve our country and will always be here to support you as you do. Much love for you Austin Scott.
