Dear Emily,
You just turned nine and it's really made me become that sentimental big sister that I never thought I would be. It's so odd for me to think about you being anything except for my little baby sister. But, I know you are going to grow up into such an amazing human and I am excited that I get the pleasure of watching that happen.
I hope that you don't let this world make you hard. I hope that you stay the happy and crazy person you are and that you don't let the things that hurt you consume you. I hope that as you get older and realize the corruption surrounding you that you do not let it bring you down but instead work to fight it. I hope that no matter what, you realize that you can come to me and I will help you, even if no one else will.
I hope that you continue to dream as big as you can. I love that you've wanted to be almost anything you think would be fun. It's been pro soccer player, engineer or even someone who does coding. I also adore the fact that you want to do all three now and live your life to the fullest. I swear, you inspire me so much.
Do you remember when you got straight A's and said that you were gonna be just like me? Well, even though it made my heart soar, you're wrong. You are going to be so much more amazing than I could ever be. You are going to change the world and start a revolution. You are going to surpass my accomplishments and I will be there for you every step of the way.
Do you remember the day we went to get our nails done and went to Chuck E Cheese? I know it probably doesn't seem that important but I love doing special things like that with you. It makes me feel optimistic that even when I move away from you, we can still do stuff like that and you'll never feel like I abandoned you.
I know that we argue and I annoy you like it's my job but, that's honestly because it is. And I'll probably never stop getting on your nerves but maybe one day, you'll realize that's just how big sisters are. You should know - you have three of them.
I never want you to forget that our whole family will always be there for you and will do whatever it takes to make sure that you can be the best person you can. I never want you to feel lost, like you're floating in the wind with nothing to tether you back to the earth. I know that this might happen because I've been there but whenever you feel like you're getting too far away, just look down and you'll find us all reaching up for you.
So, despite the fact that you will most likely never actually read this, I'm glad I could get this all out and be a big baby about how much I love you. You're awesome.
