An Open Letter To My Little Sister

Always remember, you will change the world.

An Open Letter To My Little Sister
Laurel Pellant

Dear Little Sister,

At this very moment, you are too young to read this. You are laying in your bed sound asleep with no idea how much you are loved. One thing you will never be able to understand is how much you mean to me. I never thought that a two-year-old could change the world, but you proved me wrong. Well, not the whole world, but my little world… which is pretty big if you ask me! When I think of a two-year-old, I think of a little kid walking around yelling “STOP!” and “MINE!” which is completely accurate. But there is way more to you than that. There is warmth in your sweet voice when you say “Sissy, I do it. Faith do it, Sissy.” There is comfort in that fact that you will always run to me when you need snuggles. Even though I might get annoyed with you, nothing is cuter than listening to your little voice talk.

I never dreamed that you would change my world was much as you did. I never dreamed that I would even have a little sister. Even when I found out, I was sure I would teach you more than you would teach me… That might be true, literally. I teach you your colors, what things are, and how to count to ten. But when it really comes down to it, you have me beat. You have taught me how to be a better sister. You have taught me that it does not matter how little you are; you still can be a shoulder to cry on. You taught me that it does not matter what you have and how important it is if you are not willing to share with others (shocking for a two-year-old, but when I was upset she gave me her blanket and offered her pacifier). I watch you bring people out of their shells all the time, and you make the most suborn of people happy. You light the room up when you walk in, and even when you mess up it is cute. You love everyone because we all look the same to you. That is something most adults cannot say they do, so good for you. Thinking back to life before you is almost impossible. I do not know what our living room looked like without all your toys thrown everywhere. Life without you was so dull.

So as you grow up in this world, know that you always have me. You always have me to cry with and celebrate with. You will even always have me to fight with. You are my little shadow and that will never change. The world you grow up in will be very different than the world I grew up in, but I promise to stand by your side and help you every step of the way. But for now, let’s just work on not claiming EVERYTHING!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
