A Letter To My High School Teachers

Most people leave high school and never look behind. As for me, I met some of the best people I will ever know, and those people just happen to be some of my teachers. So, let me take a minute to thank them for a few things that I won't ever forget.

To my high school yearbook teacher: Thank you thank you thank you. I can't say thank you enough for your kindness and big heart. Would I have even made it through senior year without you? I can honestly say I have a lifelong friend who will always be there for me. Such an amazing teacher, with the biggest heart for her students. I can honestly say you had a huge impact on me, and I hope that I can be at least half the teacher you are.

To my high school history teacher: Before junior year, I HATED history. It was boring and I honestly didn't understand or care much for it. But now, I'm actually going to school to teach social studies to little kids. Why, you might ask? Because my high school history teacher made me see learning in a whole new way. You made learning so much fun and history actually super interesting. You're the reason I decided to be an educator. You also taught me everything I know about college. I wouldn't have made it through my first year as a college student without weekly college 101 during second period. Thanks for being such a positive impact on my education!

To my high school band director: Junior year, just when I thought I was done with music, you came and picked our program up from the beginning. I enjoyed band, I actually loved it, and continued it after high school because of you. But more than a band director, I also have another friend. You were always there for us and believed in us when no one else did. Thank you for never giving up on us! Thank you for all the advice and the continued support after graduation. You were a big part of making my senior year so great! #scottfan

And to my high school English teacher: Long live the king! You always had the best ears and great advice. You listened and you cared. Your crude sense of humor was my favorite. I know I will never have a teacher like you again, you are one of a kind. I always looked forward to 7th period, even on Crossword Friday. You were one of the best teachers I have ever had, and I still look forward to visiting you!

All of you have made a big impact in my life, and I can't thank you all enough. Thanks for being the best teachers I have ever had.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
