Dear Best Friend,
It’s been far too long since we’ve last seen each other. With Thanksgiving break slowly approaching, I can’t help but be excited to reunite. But before we’re finally together again, I want you to know a few things.
In high school, we did everything the same. We took the same classes, knew the same people, and went to the same events. We were joined at the hip. Unfortunately, our choice of colleges have led us in separate directions. We attend different colleges, we’ve made different friends, and we’re even studying different subjects. A lot has changed since we left for college—including ourselves—but that doesn’t mean everything has.
I want you to know that our friendship won’t ever change. For years now, we’ve had each other’s backs, and no matter how many miles are between us, we always will. You’ve seen me at my best, at my worst, and everything in between (including the ugly days, like the time I had strep throat). You know me better than I know myself. I hope that when we're reunited, we'll fall back into the same patterns that we left behind. I hope we can still eat pizza and dance around to Taylor Swift while prank calling boys, like seventh graders. I hope we can still share a pint of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream while watching "The Notebook" and bawling our eyes out. Most of all, I hope that no matter who we've become through the stress of college, we can return back to our roots with ease.
In all honesty, I can’t wait to hear all the new details and updates of your new life. Even though we talk or text almost every day, hearing your voice and seeing your face light up when you talk about the new boy in your life or the good grades you’re getting will be so much better. I also can’t wait to share all of my recent adventures with you (hint hint, new job!).
Even with all of the changes in our lives, I feel confident that you'll always be my rock. I can’t imagine going through life without you. I know being apart and only seeing each other every once in a while is something that we’re still getting used to, but it makes me that much more grateful for the time I get to spend with you. Someday, when we’re sitting in our little apartment, drinking hot chocolate and doing each other’s nails, we’ll look back on the time we spent apart and know that it was worth it.
But for now, I'm counting down the hours before I get to see you again. We have so many more memories to make, and I'm eager to get started. Don’t be afraid when I attack you with a long overdue hug (which I know you’ll return no matter what). I love you more than words can say, and I’ll see you soon.
Sincerely,
Your BFF
