Creative Graduation Crafts For Teens

In a world where we are expected to get a bachelor's degree to get a decent paying job, it sometimes can feel like we will never accomplish it. Growing up in a lower socioeconomic single-mother household, I would have never dreamt it would ever be possible. College wasn't even an option to me at one point in my senior year of high school. I applied and got into several universities, but I did not have faith that I would make it to graduation day. I chose Texas State and am graduating in eight Fridays. (Yes, it has reached that point in the semester where you count down until the end.) I plan on attending graduate school in January. I know that graduation seems far, but when that day is nearing it is the most rewarding thing in the world. You will make it through.

My advice to you is to find something that motivates you. I don't mean a paycheck or a high-end job at the end. I mean something someone wrote you or someone that it's in your field and has made a positive impact in your life. For me, the thing that keeps me going in college is the last thing my Grandfather ever said to me. He told me to finish college no matter what, and I can now say that I will fulfill that promise to you.

Never forget to make time for you. In order to not get burnt out on school, you need to spend some time on yourself. Go see a movie, binge-watch Netflix, take a bath, play your Xbox. Whatever gets your mind off school and allows you to escape for a bit!

Always remember that college isn't a race. Take as much time as you may need. If you need a break, do it. Do not worry about not graduating when you're supposed to! If it is not life or death, do not push yourself to graduate and take too many classes for you to handle.

When you make it to the end, which I know you will, always remember to thank everyone who helped you get there. Without my family, I would have never made it through this crazy ride, Without my friends, I would have never gotten a break. Without Alkek, I would not be going to grad school.

You are close to the finish line. Do not ever give up hope and be the best that you can be.

Signed,

A Very Stressed Out Senior

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
