My sweet little man,
Honestly, I never thought I’d be writing this letter. I’m terrified of raising boys. I don’t have a brother and the antics of little boys always puzzled me growing up. But as I think about my future family, I realize that I want you. Even though the thought of having children of my own is the farthest thing from my mind, I want your chubby, mud-caked face, and your little Hotwheels cars and blocks scattered around the floor. Someday, I want to hear you say, in your innocent little boy voice, that you love your mommy. I want your suits and ties and sports teams. I want your sweet smiles and to hear your firetruck siren noises from the other room. Most of all, I want you to have everything good that life has to offer. I want you to be a kid and be crazy, fun, and imaginative. I want to give you a childhood where you’re free to explore, confident that your parents will always love and protect you. When you fall, we’ll be there to dust you off, kiss your scrapes, and tell you to shake it off and keep going, because that’s what life is about. I want you to develop a deep love of learning and see the world in your own way. Never let anyone tell you something is impossible. Seize every opportunity that is offered to you, pay your dues, and never let me catch you putting forth half effort on anything. I promise I will help you be able to accomplish anything you set your mind to, and in return I expect you to grow into an amazing man that I will be proud to call my son.
I want you to grow up to be like your daddy, and mine. I want you to see the men in your life and want to be just like them, because there’s a reason I chose them to be your role models. I want you to see how your daddy treats his own mother and me and know that the women in your life are to be honored, respected, and loved; just the way your mommy loves you. I want you to grow up to be a gentleman. Be polite, genuine, and kind. When someone is in need of help or friendship, I hope you’ll be the first to go out of your way and offer aid. I hope that when you’re the one having problems, you’ll come to your parents for help, because we are the only people on this earth that truly want the best for you, and would do anything to help you achieve happiness. I hope one day that you’ll find a girl that makes you feel like the luckiest man on Earth, and that you’ll remember the things your parents taught you as you start you own family. I can’t guarantee that I won’t automatically assume that no girl is good enough for you, but I promise I’ll be confident in your decisions and support you in every life choice that you make. I will always be there for you, no matter what. It’ll be a long, long time until you’ll be here in person, but I already love you, little man. Can’t wait to meet you for real.
Love Always,
Your Future Mom
