Dear Future Boss (whoever you may be),

Whether this is my dream job or a job that will build me along the way to where I'm destined to be, I want to say thank you. Thanks for giving the small town girl with big city dreams a shot in the dark. What I can tell you right now is that I'm working hard in school, making constant sacrifices and remaining persistent. What is the payoff for this, you may ask? It's in hopes that you will notice how bad I want this and how willing I am to give you my all. I am not throwing away my shot (see the Hamilton reference?) and thanks to you, I will get to put my skills to the test to better myself and your company that I will be so privileged to be a part of.

If it isn't my dream job, I hope that it builds me. I hope that you continue to challenge me until I reach new heights. I hope that you expect more out of me than what I ever thought I was capable of. I hope you prepare me for the inevitable hardships and difficulties I will face in the professional world, but also help me to embrace the ups and downs and learn to handle them with grace. I hope that you teach me to use my skills selflessly, for the greater good. No matter where I end up later in life, I will always have you to thank for getting me there. By the time my dream job comes, I will be equipped to excel in it because of you, and that will never change.

If I am one of the lucky ones who gets my dream offer right out of college, I want you to know that you can push me. Not push me around, but push me to bring my best effort to the table. Teach me that just because I landed the job, doesn't guarantee that I'll be keeping it. I understand that even after entering the workforce at a higher level, I will still have much to learn. Teach me everything you know. I want to keep learning from you. I appreciate you seeing the worth in me. I've been overlooked and underestimated before, but you saw the spark in me, the burning passion and drive in me that will never die.

I'm not sure when we will meet or how many times I will fall before I receive the offer, or maybe I won't fall, but either way, you are going to end up in my life for a reason. I will take what I can give and give more than I can take. In the end, you will sigh in relief knowing that you gave me a chance. Sometimes, a chance is all we need. So to whoever you are, regardless of when our paths may cross, I want you to know that I am forever grateful.

Sincerely,

The Hardworking College Student

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
