Dear Best (Animal) Friend,

I know you will love me unconditionally. I know that, even when I go away, you still love me. I know you will always forgive me, even after I give you a bath. I can see that look in your eyes like I have betrayed you. But no matter what, you still come back to me (after you go roll around in the grass to get back at me).

I know that when I come home from college after three months of not seeing you, I will still get a heartwarming greeting from you like I never left. I know that you will still lie on my feet to keep them warm. I know that all I have to say is "Do you what to cuddle?" and you will be up in my lap.

I know that when I bring home my boyfriend, you will have to give your approval of him. Even when you do approve, you will still make it known that I am your person. However, I know you will still love him, too.

I know that no matter what, if I grab the trash to go to the dump, you will be in my front seat beside me because that is how we roll. I know that if someone tries to sit in your seat and you have to sit in the back, you will not like that person very much. I know to embrace the constant dog hair in my car.

Even though I get mad about your white hair on my black uniform for work, I still love that you are always with me (even if it makes me look like I have an animal coming out of my side).

I love to show you off because, let's face it, you are adorable! I know that everyone else thinks so, too.

I know that I get snippy when you bark at the wind, but I like my sleep. But in some ways, I see your barking at every little sound as a reassurance. Life would be too quiet without it.

Lastly, I know that no matter what, because you are the biggest goof, I will always have a best friend and a wonderful listener.
