Dear Friends,
Many of you reading this, I hope, are Trump supporters, not because I wish to support Mr. Trump in any way, but because I wanted to start a dialogue with you, his supporters. As I said, many of you reading this are quite possibly voting for Mr. Trump. Suffice it to say that I will not be.
I myself am a Bernie Sanders supporter. However, I do not even wish to get into who I am supporting here. I simply wish to tell you a few key things. First and foremost, with Mr. Trump most likely being the Republican candidate, he stands a fairly decent chance at winning the presidency. Given that fact, I will still not agree with Mr. Trump and his policies, and in all honesty, that is perfectly okay. Much of this election season, as I have stated in an earlier article, the various candidates have attempted to divide us, whether it be on the Republican side or the Democratic side, and my only hope in writing this letter to you is that, at the end of the day, I do not think that all of you are bad people.
Mr. Trump has tapped into the feelings of anger and dissatisfaction that many citizens in our country are feeling, causing him to gain immense popularity across the country. Many of us are simply disillusioned with the political system in our country. Time and time again, when we saw ourselves on the cusp of greatness, we have been let down. The system has been morphed and pervaded so far from its original form that no longer does it appear that the American Dream is achievable. Thus, many Americans have turned to Mr. Trump, following the logic that an unorthodox candidate may be able to clean house and shake things up enough in Washington, D.C., to put the system back on track. I myself do not submit to this line of thinking, but I can understand why people would.
At the end of the day, we are all Americans. We all love this country (if there is one thing I can credit Mr. Trump with, his love of country is extreme). We all have a say in who is elected. We all chose the destiny of our nation. If I disagree with Mr. Trump and his policies, it is not a personal attack against any of you, his supporters, or against Mr. Trump himself. I may once have made personal attacks, but I no longer do, as I have seen that it is useless in making a greater nation.
My only words of warning are these: Mr. Trump has incited extreme passion in his followers, and many of them support him with fervent intensity. However, do not fall into the category of supporters we see far too often on television and in the media who engage in violence and simply discount the opinions of those who support a different candidate. For the most part, many of us simply want to see America return to the high standing and success that it once enjoyed in the world. For myself, my disagreement is no personal attack against you, I simply disagree.
This election season should not be designed to pit voters against each other in violence, disdain, and mudslinging. This election season should rather be about the voters uniting and working together to give the nation the best chance at restoring past glories. My honest hope is that if Mr. Trump does in fact win, that he can achieve his overall goal of making America great again. However, he simply has a lot to prove to me before I can believe him. But if he wins, I simply hope that he embodies the ideals of justice, liberty and equality that truly make America great.
