An Open Letter To The Friends Who I No Longer See Regularly

Even if we don't talk anymore, I still consider us friends.

This is for you, if we are or were friends but either you moved or I moved. Even if we still live in the same town but now just don't see each other as often as we used to, this is for you. Either way, we have been separated by distance, but not by friendship.

Every time I see you post on social media about how your life is finally going in the direction you want it, I am so happy for you. Every selfie you post makes me thrilled because I can see how genuinely happy you are. When you post about having a hard time, please know that I'm here for you like I always was. The fact that we aren't in the same town anymore makes no difference in how much I love and support you.

I love catching up with you, whether it's when one of us visits the other's town, when we make time to call each other, or just messaging back and forth. Getting to hear from you means a lot, and it warms my heart.

I honestly feel like distance has made us closer; because we don't see each other every day, when we do see each other it seems extra special. I have always treasured our friendship, and now I treasure it even more.

For those who are reading this and you aren't sure if it applies to you, it does. To everyone I went to school with, I understand that we might not have all been friends and we both have our own friend groups now, but if you ever want to catch up or just need someone to talk to, let me know. Sometimes I think about people I went to high school or middle school with, and I truly appreciate all the memories you have given me. Even if we didn't always get along, looking back now, it was an overall good time.

It may not seem like much, but the times we hung out at each other's houses were really important to me. The times we all went to Dairy Queen after a band concert were so fun to me because I got to be with all of you. Every single one of you shaped who I am today. I even wrote a couple letters to a few of you, letters I never sent because I thought they were too dramatic. I thanked you for your positive attitudes and for accepting me into your friend groups.

Please don't ever think you are less important than someone else, because to me, you are one of the reasons I'm here. I had a rough time in high school, and just having you as a friend helped me out.

You cross my mind every now and then, and I just hope you're doing well. I want life to treat you right; you deserve all of the happiness in the world. Thank you so much for being my friend, for being a positive person in my life, and for treating me kindly.

Yours truly,

Angela Hotchkiss

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
