An Open Letter To My Favorite Pair Of Jeans

Hello old friend,

You know who you are. The perfectly ripped pair that somehow makes my legs look skinny and my butt look perky all at the same time. We’ve been through it all together. From some of the best nights of our lives we will never forget, to what we can only assume were even better nights we will never remember… From tears of heartbreak to tears of joy, you’ve been by my side (or on it, actually) through it all. You were always there when I had nothing to wear. You made me feel like a million bucks no matter what.

I still remember the day you came home with me. I had been looking high and low for the perfect pair of black jeans and there you were, hanging in the jean section at Nordstrom, waiting for me. You were the envy of my friends who have tried (and failed) time and time again to steal you from me, but we will never part!

I would like to apologize for abusing you and taking you for granted over the years. I hope you know that every rip and fray was out of love. I will keep wearing you until you cannot possibly be worn anymore, and that will be a tragic day. I will mourn your loss and pick through every department store rack, hoping to find a pair as good as you. I hope this day will never come because I know that none can compare.

Some may read this and think, “Wow this girl is crazy, they’re just a pair of jeans!” I pity them because that means they have never felt the true love that is only experienced between a girl and a perfectly fitting pair of jeans. I hope one day they can find a love like ours.

I cannot wait to make many, many more memories with you on the rest of our journey together. I know you will be there for me through thick and through thin (aka the freshman 15) and will hold me tight no matter what!

All my love,

Madeline

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
