An Open Letter To My Favorite Author

Dear John Green,

First off, let me just say thank you. Thank you for giving me the inspiration to write. To write for myself, to write for school and to write for others. I will always cherish all of your work. Every word that you have ever written is stored somewhere in my brain, even if it is filled with other things like information for school. All of my favorite quotes, characters and places came from your finger tips. I have read hundreds of books before—reading is one of the most important things to me. Reading is a place to just escape the craziness of life or the craziness of your thoughts and just become someone else. Maybe its the main character, maybe its even the mom; but you become something.

When I first read "Looking For Alaska," I was in awe. It is still, hands down, my favorite book I have ever read. It is one of those books that you see a little bit of yourself in everyone. You make our emotions turn by the quotes you used and the situations that you created. And to see another one of my favorite books get turned into a major motion picture is something that I will never forget. I will never forget sitting in the audience and just waiting for the movie to start, seeing your story come to life right in front of me. Knowing the order in which everything happens and knowing what parts were changed and when a line was said by a different character than in the book, I knew it all. Don't get me wrong, that definitely could be a bit obsessive, but I didn't care. It meant too much to me.

Besides you being my favorite author, you are one of my favorite role models. You are always looking out for others, especially from other countries. You always are looking for ways to help others, and I could not be happier that someone could be so respectful to everyone. I have never seen you tweet or post anything about yourself; it is always about others. So thank you for being someone who I look up to and inspire to be like everyday. I could not have gotten the confidence to publish my writing without you.

Sincerely,

Your Biggest Reader,

Paige

P.S. Thank you for the all of the history crash course videos, you helped me pass class!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
