An Open Letter To Ellen DeGeneres

The answer is the same every time, "If you could have dinner with one famous person dead or alive who would it be?"

"I want to be clear and here are the values that I stand for. I stand for honesty, equality, kindness, compassion, treating people the way you want to be treated, and helping those in need. To me those are traditional values. That's what I stand for." — Ellen DeGeneres

To One of the KINDest People in the World,

The first thing to come to my mind when I saw your KINDness campaign was, "Can I nominate Ellen for her own campaign?" The directions of the campaign are: If you encountered a small, random, big, beautiful, life-changing act of kindness you want us to know about, submit it on Ellentv.com. You definitely are responsible for life-changing acts of kindness.

Ellen, you are (in the terms of teenage girls) #lifegoals. You are someone who set out with the dream to make people happy. Though, what you are doing is much more than just making people happy. You are changing hundreds of lives around the world out of the goodness of your heart. Which is not something easy to do at all. You get happiness and fulfillment through making others happy. I think that is something is different about you.

Every night before bed I watch 15 clips from your shows on my laptop, no matter what. As a freshmen in college, there are plenty of other things I could be doing at one in the morning after I finished all of my studying (such as sleeping). I would rather get four hours of sleep instead of five if it means I get to watch Ellen clips.

No matter how my day went, or how I am feeling, I can without a doubt find a segment from your show that will change my mood. Whether I need to watch an episode where I get the chills from you are being the world's greatest humanitarian. I cry laughing from you being the world's greatest comedian, or a little bit of both. You're are my go-to.

Greatest humanitarian.

Greatest comedian.

A little bit of both:

Whenever I watch your show and you make someone's dream come true by bringing their favorite celebrity on stage to meet them. I always wonder one thing: who would I want Ellen to introduce me to? Then I remembe, for that to happen I would have already met you and my dreams would have been fulfilled.

Anyways, not like you need me to tell you, keep doing what you're doing because you're living life perfectly. I can not claim to be your biggest fan because I can not compete with the millions of people fighting to be your number one, but I will claim to be your second biggest fan.

I love you so much I even have a sticker of you on my laptop.

Lastly, I want to thank you for all that you do and continue to do. Ellen, you are a legend and you think you impact many people's' lives. I can guarantee you impact lives of many more people than you could ever imagine. You will forever be my favorite person and hopefully one day we will meet on your stage.

"Be kind to one another."

With Love and Kindness,

Your Number Two Fan

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
