Dear Mr. Bowie,
What an iconic man you were. We will never forget you and all that you gave us. I know I didn't grown up with the generation that adored your music and style, but growing up with a mother who was in love with you, I grew to have a real appreciation for your music. Listening to classics like: "China Girl," "Let's Dance," "Under Pressure," "Blue Jean" and "Fame" as an 8-year old made me realize I wished I grew up in the 70s like my mother. Your music was always easy to listen to and understand, that's what made me fall in love with you. You changed the lives of so many people, so this letter is for you, letting you know how special you are to me and to all your fans. You will be greatly missed.
You inspired the youth of your generation in a way no one other artist did. You told them it was OK to be their true self and to be different. You basically put the needs of your fans and people around the world first, before your own. I'd say that's pretty damn amazing. That's what made you so special as an artist and as a person. You told the world your secret of being bisexual, which helped others realize who they really were. Someone who is willing to do such a selfless act like that deserves an award!
You were such an advocate for the LGBT community, you became the face of it. That makes you an incredible and strong human being. You had such a warm, welcoming soul that we will forever miss. We thank you for putting your needs aside to help others.
Mr. Bowie, where do I even begin? Your music may be considered "old school," but those songs you wrote will never go out of style (at least I hope). Your songs were so original and different, which made your fans fall in love with you. You always kept it real in your music, never going for the corny love songs like every other 70s/80s pop star. Us fans appreciate the route you took to get to your fame (oh Fame, what another wonderful classic of yours).
You achieved so much throughout your life and your achievements started at such a young age. At age 15 you left school to be in a band to play the saxophone (which is so badass). It's awesome to know that you knew what you wanted and went for it at such a young age. Your are truly an inspiration.
It's hard to believe you are no longer with us. I hope you realize that people will never forget you, even the young kids like me. I'm thankful that my mother introduced me to your music at such a young age. Listening to your music gives me hope that one day another man or woman like you will grace us with their presence and change the music industry like you did.
I hope you're enjoying heaven Mr. Bowie, you deserve to lie in peace up there. Your fans will never forget the amazing music you left behind. Long live Ziggy Stardust, otherwise known as the wonderful David Robert Jones. Rest easy, Bowie.
