Dear younger siblings,
Let me start by saying I miss you every day. I was so eager to leave for college and make new friends, I never considered what it would be like living without you two, my built-in best friends. It’s weird waking up in the morning without having someone to fight with over the last Pop-Tart, or embarrass on the drive to school by jamming to One Direction. It’s even stranger not having you to confide in, tell me when I’ve made a mistake, or be honest when I bring home a friend or a boy that you don’t like. Overall, I miss seeing your happy, and sometimes annoying, faces every single day.
To my sister: Enjoy your freshman year of high school. Sometimes things will be absolutely amazing, and other times things may be a little tricky between trying to keep up with school work and holding your relationships together. Always remember that I am only a phone call away, and would love to help you with a really difficult chapter in biology, or talk you through drama that happened over the weekend. I am sorry that I have been away, unable to help you find a dress or do your hair for homecoming as you have for me. But I still love looking at the pictures on Instagram and Twitter, and hearing about how much fun you had. Also, I hope you enjoy having the room and the closet all to yourself. Feel free to use the clothes I left behind, as long as you let me borrow a pair of jeans when I come home for the weekend to discover I only packed leggings.
To my brother: How are you getting so old? I cannot believe you are filling out college applications. I secretly hope that you will decide to join me at the same university, but I understand that you may want to choose your own path. Enjoy your senior year of high school, because as you may have already noticed, time flies when you’re having fun. Don’t worry about your freshman year of college until your confirmation deadline; everything always works out, and you will make the right decision for you, even if it seems like there isn’t only one right choice. Also, thank you for adding a little entertainment to my life. While my friends are constantly reminding me that I am embarrassingly not funny, you are extremely skilled at cracking one-liners that never fail to make me laugh out loud, even when I’m studying at the library and should be quiet.
To the both of you: I am so sorry that I left you alone under the same roof with mom and dad (shhh, don’t tell them I said that!), but don’t forget to appreciate everything they do for you. However, sometimes it can be hard to see eye-to-eye with them, and when this happens, please call me. I may not always tell you what you want to hear, but I was in high school not too long ago, and I understand what you’re going through.
High school can be difficult, but just remember to kill ‘em with kindness and walk tall. You are my heroes. You are both so smart, athletic, outgoing, and loving. I am so proud of you. I can’t wait to see what the future holds.
Even though you drive me nuts sometimes, I cannot wait to be home eating pizza and watching movies with you. I’ll be home soon.
Love,
Your older sister
